Bandipur National Park was established in April 1973 and covers an impressive area of 874 square kilometres. Originally, it was a hunting reserve for the Maharajas of Mysore, but it underwent a transformation into a protected area to conserve the region's rich biodiversity. This conversion played a vital role in safeguarding the park's numerous species and their habitats.
Bandipur National Park is well known for its exceptional biodiversity. It serves visitors with a remarkable variety of habitats, including dry deciduous forests, grasslands, and riverine forests. This combination of ecosystems supports a diverse range of flora and fauna. The park is home to over 200 species of birds, including endangered species like the Indian vulture and the Oriental white-backed vulture. The region also hosts a vibrant array of mammals, such as tigers, elephants, leopards, gaurs, and sloth bears, making it a wildlife enthusiast's paradise.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the wonderful Bandipur National Park on the day when Bandipur National Park turned 50.
He also shared a video on his Twitter account in which he showed his experience in the amazing and quite old national park. He captioned the video with “A special day in the midst of flora and faunal diversity and good news on the tiger's population…here are the highlights from today…
He also shared another tweet on his account in which he appreciated the hard work of the forest officials and other staff who worked and also gave their best to conserve and preserve the wildlife and habitat of the national park. The tweet says “As I conclude a memorable visit to the Bandipur and Mudumalai Tiger Reserves, I want to acknowledge the hard work of all forest officials, guards, tiger reserve frontline staff and everyone else working on tiger conservation. Words can’t do justice to their passion and efforts.
Initially, in the year 1973, when Bandipur Tiger Reserve just got established it only had 12 tigers and now in the year 2023, the population of tigers rises up to over 724 and the growth in the population of tigers in this park contributed a lot in the increase of tiger population in India with over 3,167. Which shows the dedication people showed to this park. And it is the biggest achievement of this national park. And the fact about this tiger reserve is that it has the second highest population of tigers in India.
We are very proud to tell you that India holds up to 70 per cent of the population of the tiger all over the world.
Bandipur National Park turned 50, becoming one of India's most beautiful national parks. It deserves all the appreciation as the efforts made to conserve the wildlife resulted in making the national park full of diverse fauna and flora. If you want to celebrate the 50th year of the establishment of this amazing national park.
